It was built on the site of the former PR Chemicals factory, one of the most polluted sites in the country, and decontaminating it took many years.
Local tip
It is next to Pontoon Dock DLR station and right beside the Thames Barrier, so it is an easy DLR stop with a view of the barrier from the north bank.
