The free service opened in 1889 after tolls were abolished on the bridges to the west of London, and a ferry has operated at Woolwich since the 14th century.
Local tip
Wikipedia gives a two-boat service from 6am to 10pm with sailings about every 15 minutes. Check TfL for disruptions before making a special trip.
