Did you know
Tobacco merchant Gilliat Hatfeild, whose estate ground tobacco into snuff at the park's watermills, left the core of the estate to the National Trust when he died in 1941, and the park is still free to enter.
Local tip
Entry is free and the parkland is open all day; the rose garden is open 9am to 6pm and the Potting Shed cafe 9am to 5pm. The car park is pay-and-display with the first 1.5 hours free.
