Did you know
Opened in November 1890 by Angus Stafford Gordon, it still sells only wine, port and sherry. The building above it is thought to have housed Rudyard Kipling.
Local tip
There's no reservation system for small groups. It's first-come, first-served, so arrive before 5pm or after 9pm to have a shot at a candlelit cellar table, and go in summer for the big outdoor terrace instead.
