Did you know
The current building, completed in 1997, was built using timber-framing techniques and materials as close to the 1599 original as research allowed, and it has the first thatched roof permitted in London since the Great Fire of 1666.
Local tip
Buy a standing yard ticket for the cheapest way to see a live performance, but bring a cushion or rent one on site if you book a wooden bench seat instead, and check the schedule since the theatre only stages plays during its main season.
