Did you know
The building was originally Bankside Power Station, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the same architect behind the red telephone box, and its 99-metre chimney and vast Turbine Hall were kept intact when the gallery converted the site in 2000.
Local tip
Go up to the free viewing level on the Blavatnik Building for a skyline view over St Paul's without paying for a ticketed viewpoint, and visit on a weekday to see the Turbine Hall installation without the weekend crowds.
