Did you know
Between its Tudor origins and becoming a museum, the house lived several unlikely lives: a Victorian school, a WWI church institute, a 1960s–70s trade union office, and a 1980s punk squat, before the National Trust restored the Tudor rooms visitors see today.
Local tip
It's easy to walk past assuming it's just another Hackney terrace. Look for the oak-panelled Tudor rooms and original carved fireplaces inside, which are genuinely unusual to find this far into inner London.
