Did you know
Opened in 1902 by Michele Manze, an Italian ice-cream merchant's son-in-law who bought the shop from original owner Robert Cooke (who'd started it in 1892). The tiled interior has barely changed and has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, plus Elton John's "Made in England" video.
Local tip
Go for the classic 2 pies and mash with liquor, and try the stewed or jellied eels if you're curious. It's one of the few places left in London still serving them the traditional way. Cash and card both fine; it's quick counter service, no booking needed.
