Did you know
The temple's remains were first discovered in 1954 during construction work and drew such large public queues to see them that police had to control crowds, before the ruins were later reburied and rebuilt in their original location seven metres below street level as part of the Bloomberg development.
Local tip
Book a free timed slot online in advance, since walk-in space is limited, and time your visit for one of the on-the-hour light and sound presentations that recreate the temple's original appearance.
