The building was the Lambeth Workhouse, where Charlie Chaplin spent part of his childhood when his mother was destitute.
Local tip
There are no regular opening hours, so book a scheduled tour online in advance. Tours last about two hours and include around 30 minutes of short films. The museum is currently fundraising to buy its building.
