Did you know

Poet James Thomson is said to have composed "Rule, Britannia!" here, and the pub's other reputed regulars over the centuries have included Charles II (visiting his mistress Nell Gwynne), Ernest Hemingway, Dylan Thomas and William Morris, who lived next door.

Local tip

Ask for a seat on the small riverside terrace overlooking the Thames rather than staying inside. It's a narrow pub, and the river view is the main draw.
