During the 1780 Gordon Riots the house was reportedly saved when free ale from the Spaniards Inn stalled the mob until cavalry arrived.

Entry is free, but English Heritage recommends pre-booking a free ticket online (bookable until 8.45am on the day, then subject to availability). The house is open 10am-5pm.
