Did you know
The flower market moved to Sunday by Act of Parliament so Jewish traders who observed the Saturday Sabbath could take part. The covered Columbia Market built here in 1869 by Angela Burdett-Coutts had closed by 1886.
Local tip
Arrive by 8-9am for the best flowers and thinnest crowds. The street becomes packed by 11am, and bring cash since most stalls don't take cards; alternatively go in the last hour before closing when traders discount unsold stock.
