Did you know
The abbey was founded in 1178 by Richard de Luci and dedicated to St Mary and Thomas Becket, and some of its stone is said to have been reused to build nearby Hall Place.
Local tip
There is a cafe and a small exhibition on the abbey by the ruins, and the woodland is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its early Tertiary fossils.
